There were 25,905 housing units at an average density of 339.1/km² (878.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 43.59% White, 43.30% African American, 0.16% Native American, 3.03% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 4.72% from other races, and 5.11% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 29.38% of the population. There were 23,058 households out of which 48.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.0% were married couples living together, 19.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.1% were non-families. 14.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
